There are old abandoned mines throughout the area, some developed like the one above, and some just holes in the ground, below.

In the spirit of all things Jonmikel and Kat, we seem to once again be on the move. Lander, WY appears to be our next destination, but on the way we explored Atlantic City, an old mining town sitting just off the Oregon Trail. Less than 100 people still live there, mostly retirees or people who want the thrill of living in what is arguably a super-cool place. An almost Alpine environment, reminiscent of Alaska, tucked away in the foothills of the Wind Rivers so that as you drive to it all you can see is plains until you suddenly duck under the horizon of sage brush and grass and come out into an entirely surreal place, a community of miners-at-heart.
